Job Description

HSSA is organized around three primary pillars: Shelter & Placement, Prevention and Outreach & Education. 

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for financial strategy, planning and analysis, financial statements and reporting, company audits, analytical skills, budgeting and high employee engagement. The annual salary for this position begins at $105,000.

Reporting to and partnering with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) sets HSSA’s financial policy and direction while also being an active participant in, and driver of, the organization’s overall strategy. They will lead and be accountable for all financial administration, business planning, high employee engagement and budgeting. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO works closely with a motivated and engaged Finance and Investment Committee (FIC) of the Board of Directors.

The CFO leads HSSA’s Finance, Information Technology (IT), Facilities, and Thrift Store staff.

Qualifications
The CFO is a highly skilled leader with at least 8-10 years of broad finance experience of increasing responsibility, including experience gathering and evaluating financial information, audit and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership. They have experience managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting), and technology for a nonprofit of similar size. The CFO has a background in managing employees and bringing positive change to organizations.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Highly skilled and proactive, with evidence of having worked as a true business partner to the chief executive.
• Non-profit experience is required with at least 3 years of CFO experience and 5 years of senior level financial experience or a combination of the two with an organization with annual revenues of at least $10 million.
• Demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting requirements.
• Skill in examining, developing, re-engineering, and recommending financial, and technology policies and procedures. Experience implementing a centralized purchasing and cost containment strategy would be a plus.
• Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.
• A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality. Needs to be seen as a team player who is committed to lifelong learning.
• A hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
• An effective communicator, with strong oral and written skills.
• Strong commitment to developing team members with demonstrated experience and dedication to coaching, mentoring, and teaching.
• High emotional intelligence.
• Demonstrated commitment to animal welfare with a passion for HSSA’s mission is essential.
• Demonstrated commitment to Inclusion, Diversion, Equity and Access (IDEA) principles.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
• Proficient in QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Office Suite, and CRM systems.
• Possession of a valid Arizona driver’s license and driving record acceptable to HSSA insurance carrier.
• Pass a background check
• Experience with non-profit accounting standards and regulations is a plus.
