SPCA Florida is looking for a new team member for the Foster Care Program. The Foster Caretaker helps with the care of SPCA Florida’s Foster animals, assuring proper and humane care of the shelter animals while in foster care. The Foster Caretaker will perform duties independently with minimal supervision, operating from specific and defined directions and instructions, all while advocating for SPCA Florida’s vision and mission of helping people and saving pets.

Essential Duties & Primary Job Functions:
• Assist in coordinating and completing animal intakes.
• Oversee and complete daily duties of the cleaning and feeding the nursery.
• Provide excellent customer service to foster parents and potential fosters parents.
• Match foster families with appropriate foster animals based on their skills and situation.
• Assure that all foster volunteers receive the necessary training and support to perform their foster care responsibilities
• Provide ongoing assistance, coaching, and moral support to foster families.
• Respond to emails and phone calls from pet and foster parents within a timely manner on workdays.
• Maintain foster files and documentation of foster applications.
• Work directly with the Foster Care Coordinator to evaluate and identify animals that are candidates for the foster program.
• Work directly with the Foster Care Coordinator to determine appropriate medical treatment needed for foster animals.
• Report any foster family concerns to the appropriate medical team member.
• Schedule vaccines and medication pickup as needed with foster families.
• Maintain and track supplies for foster program.
• Assists in the pickup and return of foster animals.
Proficiencies:
• EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS A MUST!
• Ability to communicate with the public, foster parents, co-workers, and volunteers in a professional, pleasant, courteous, tactful, and effective manner at all times. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Willing to learn how to properly prepare and administer vaccines and dewormer.
• Willing to learn how to collect blood to perform Feline FIV/FeLV Combo and Canine 4DX tests.
• Willing to learn how to properly scan for a microchip.



Qualifications and Skills
• High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer the completion of a two- or four-year veterinary technician program at an accredited college or university with computer training or experience.
• Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated.
• Excellent organizational skills: ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Must be in good physical and mental health and have the ability to perform physical activity, including lifting and carrying animals weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance for short distances.
• The ability to work compassionately with animals that may be fractious and possibly attempt to bite or scratch.
